Terms of Use
By using Menu Translator, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Operator

2. What the app does
Point the camera at a menu, sign, notice, package label, or other readable text. You can also pick a photo already on this iPhone. Live translation can appear automatically. An optional shutter freezes the current scene for stable reading, saving, and sharing. When prices are visible, the app may convert them into the iPhone language and currency and overlay that amount on the original price. Overlay amounts do not show the word “approx.” Converted prices are approximate, using that day’s published rate, and are not a bank, card, or restaurant charge.
The app assists understanding only. It is not a certified translation, medical, allergy-safety, dietary, religious, or billing service.
3. How processing is split
- On-device Apple Vision OCR reads visible text.
- Deterministic code parses prices/currency when present, counts free uses, and manages the 30-Day Travel Pass from verified StoreKit transactions. Price patterns are a menu signal, not a requirement for signs or general text.
- On-device AI (Apple Foundation Models when available) may explain the visible scene. If AI is unavailable, OCR + translation + price still work.
- Apple Translation may translate recognized text into the iPhone language. Depending on the country and which language packs are already on the iPhone, Apple may ask the user to download translation data the first time a pair is used. Download, cancel, or failure does not consume a free read.
AI output can be wrong or incomplete. Do not treat it as a safety or allergen judgment. Numeric prices, entitlement, expiry, and free-use counts are never taken from the AI.
4. Images and text
Live camera frames and user-selected photos are processed on the device. The app is not designed to upload scene images or recognized text to NEXTBASE, OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, or any NextBase AI server. If you choose Save, the composed image can be written to your Photo Library. If you choose Share, the system share sheet stays under your control.
5. Free allowance
This installation includes 3 successful reads of new scenes. The free allowance does not renew each calendar month. A use is consumed only when a new fingerprint produces a valid result. Repeating the same scene does not consume another use. Empty / no-text scenes, cancelled purchases, and analysis failures do not consume a use. When a Travel Pass is active, free uses are not consumed.
6. 30-Day Travel Pass
Product ID: com.nextbase.menutranslator.travelpass.30day. Type: Non-Renewing Subscription. Reference US price: $9.99 for 30 days of unlimited supported reads. It does not auto-renew. Each purchase is charged once. Entitlement is purchaseDate + 30 days from a verified StoreKit transaction. After expiry, any remaining free reads on this installation become available again. A new verified purchase starts a new 30-day period. Apple’s confirmation sheet governs the actual localized price and taxes.
7. Expiry, repurchase, and refunds
The pass ends 30 days after the verified purchase date. There is no automatic renewal and no in-app cancellation instruction, because nothing renews. You may purchase another 30-Day Travel Pass after expiry. Apple charges the Apple Account. Restore Purchases re-checks StoreKit. NEXTBASE cannot invent an entitlement. Refunds and billing disputes are handled by Apple.
8. Food and public-safety notices
Do not eat food, ignore a warning sign, or follow a label based only on an app overlay. Allergens, ingredients, required actions, and claims may be missing or mistranslated. Confirm with restaurant staff, posted instructions, or the product itself. The app only shows notice text that is actually visible; absence of a notice is not a safety clearance.
